Sports Overview

Sport is a vital part of a balanced and multi-faceted educational program. Sport provides students with a range of experiences and opportunities that are unique in their educational setting and as such, we expect every student to participate in these activities.

The sporting program at Emmanuel offers constructive and positive pathways, where the willingness to be actively and practically involved is just as important as the final results. At the same time, we are striving for excellence and would like to see every student maximise their physical potential and experience, across a range of different sports.

Our aim is to provide a comprehensive, structured and balanced program of sporting activities that provide students with regular, constructive and enjoyable sporting opportunities which will ideally foster and develop the following:

  • The development of character that reflects the Christian ethos of the school.
  • The acquisition of skills and physical abilities that enhance personal and team performance.
  • A sense of team, house and school spirit.
  • The development of attitudes and interests that will see students maintain a long term commitment to an active lifestyle.
  • The development of fitness and personal health related to physical activity.
  • The development of expertise that allows students to pursue representative sporting opportunities.

Emmanuel operates a four House structure from Years 4 - 12.

For Years 4-12 students, inter-house competition occurs in the three major carnivals (swimming, cross country and athletics) as well as some lunchtime sports activities, debating and areas of school service.  Prep – Year 3 students enjoy three fun events, mirrored on the swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals.

Students new to the school are allocated to Houses according to House populations in each age group. Students in the same immediate families will always be placed in the same house; however this may not occur for other relatives.
