Emmanuel College is thrilled to congratulate Ollie, Jack, and Luke, winners of the 2025 Mayor’s Technology and Innovation Award for their outstanding achievement with their Flood Mesh prototype, “The Stick.”
The trio’s innovative design impressed judges for its creativity, practical application, and community impact. Presented at Bond University, the award recognises young innovators across the Gold Coast who are developing technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges. The students received $5,000 for Emmanuel College, along with individual prizes celebrating their contribution to innovation and problem-solving.
The team had the opportunity to meet with Mayor Tom Tate at a press conference, where they shared insights into their project and demonstrated how their working model operates to enhance flood response and safety. Their professionalism and passion for creating meaningful change stood out as they represented both themselves and the College with distinction.
We are immensely proud of how these students, in their final year of schooling, have shown initiative, independence, and creativity in bringing this concept to life. Their work exemplifies Emmanuel College’s vision, to inspire intelligent, hopeful engagement with the world.
