Lego Live! with Andrew and Damian

Emmanuel College is pleased to be the lead consortium partner in this exciting project to promote the Gold Coast as a study destination. This project, co-funded with the support of Study Gold Coast's Education Vision Project Fund, involved four live Lego builds with Andrew and Damian, runners up in Season Two of Channel Nine's Lego Masters. Andrew has also been a senior music teacher at the College for a number of years.

For the project, Andrew and Damian have designed and built four amazing Lego water dragons, each one celebrating a unique aspect of Queensland's beautiful Gold Coast.

Utilising 150,000+ Lego bricks and taking over 50 hours per build, the guys recently put the final touches on the water dragons at four live events across the Gold Coast, partnering with Study Gold Coast and some of its partner organisations - Emmanuel College, Southern Cross University, TAFE Queensland, the Mayor's Student Ambassador Program and Tyler International - helping to connect and promote collaboration between these partners.

At each live build event, small teams from each of these partner organisations competed in their own Lego competition, designing and building Lego habitats for each team's mini water dragon. Each team had two hours to get creative and deliver something amazing!

The Yugambeh Water Dragon, Hinterland Water Dragon, Beachside Water Dragon and the Paradise Water Dragon, built by Andrew and Damian, were gifted to Emmanuel College, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Gold Coast Airport and Gold Coast City at a ceremony with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate on Friday 30 April 2021. At each of these locations they will be enjoyed by thousands of Gold Coast visitors and residents.

Check out the videos of each build below to see amazing ideas come to life!

Build #1 at Emmanuel College - Yugambeh Dragon

The Yugambeh Water Dragon acknowledges the Yugambeh people, who are the traditional custodians of the land located in South-East Queensland and North-Eastern New South Wales. When designing the build, Andrew and Damian consulted with a local Elder and utilised colours found in traditional Yugambeh art.

Build #2 at Dreamworld - Hinterland Dragon

The Hinterland Water Dragon represents the beautiful hinterland forest region which surrounds the Gold Coast to its west. The dragon features aspects of the camouflage patterns found in much of the wildlife living in the hinterland region. The build also features a micro-scale Gold Coast skyline, including well-known landmarks such as the Q1 building and Metricon Stadium.

Build #3 at Southern Cross University - Beachside Dragon

The Beachside Water Dragon represents the Gold Coast's beautiful beachside location, featuring the scenery and lifestyle for which our city is well-known. Students who choose to study on the Gold Coast get to experience everything our stunning beaches have to offer - what a lifestyle!

Build #4 at Ashmore TAFE - Paradise Dragon

Representing the bright and vibrant hub of the Gold Coast, the Paradise Dragon embodies the entertainment playground that is Surfers Paradise. Widely known as the Gold Coast's entertainment and tourism centre, it is also a cultural hub famous for its nightlife, international events, and exciting atmosphere.
