In a drama packed week of volleyball, our Open Girls Division 1 Volleyball team finished 6th at the Australian Titles in Melbourne. The team can be extremely proud of their efforts. There were 17 teams in the division from throughout Australia and NZ. The standard across the division was the highest we have ever encountered and there we no easy matches. Seven of our 8 matches match went down to the wire, with a couple of close encounters falling the opposition way. For example, we were the only team to take a set of the Gold Medallists, we tied against the Bronze Medallists and had tense thrillers all week. It certainly wasn’t for the fainted hearted. Simply put, the girls played to a very high standard and can be very proud of their efforts, but were obviously disappointed to miss out on the medals. Well played girls.
A big thanks to coach Mr Sandford and manager Miss Eade for the fantastic job they did with the girls. Team members were Mia Adams, Lydia Brown, Sarah-Jayne DeCelis, Alana Neave, Maggie O’Hara, Emily Raven and Jordan Selvey We also took a younger development team down to the championship. They played in the Open Girl’s Division 3 competition.
They had a mixed week, finishing mid table of 18 teams with roughly equal tally of wins and losses. Their spirit was excellent and they will have gained enormous experience and understanding how hard it is to play a 5 day tournament. A big thanks to their coach Georgie Rankin and to manager Jill Rankin for their great work with the team. Team members were Lillian Boyes, Jenna Breetzke, Monique Hay, Isabelle Garland, Amy Lumsden, Courtney Lush, Grace Planting and Sarah Stevens.
