The two days of our Senior School carnival were certainly memorable!
Day 1 was the coldest athletics carnival day that any long serving staff members could ever remember and Day 2, while pleasantly warm, was one of the soggiest ever underfoot - forcing the cancellation of some High Jump and the Hurdles. Despite the contrary conditions, the students put in some outstanding efforts to produce a thrilling points finish and a large number of records.
In a result that came right down to the relays at the end of the carnival, Wycliffe came from behind to pip Taylor by just 13 points. In doing so they also secured Wycliffe’s first ever “Triple Crown”, winning the Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics this year. Congratulations Wycliffe!
Individually, 16 records were broken, which is remarkable, given the weather and track conditions. It is certainly a testament to the quality of the Athletics coaching program that Mr Ferris has put in place.
We can confidently look forward to a very good school performance at the APS carnivals coming up next week. The 9 - 12 year olds are on Tuesday 11 August and the 13 - 19 year olds are on Wednesday 12 August. Information letters to team members should be out this week. Full results of the carnivals will be on ECNet soon.
