Principal's Message

Some opportunities, like the Junior School FRIENDS program are woven into the curriculum whilst others like the Year 8 Compass, the Year 9 Response, the Year 10 Journey and the Year 11 Mentoring programs are voluntary. They are all, if I’m honest, quite remarkable. These programs are an integral part of the education on offer here, and I would encourage you to talk to your children about joining in.

Cross Country Selections

A big congratulations to our Boys and Girls teams that competed at the Queensland Schools Championship just prior to the holidays.

In a fantastic result, the boy’s team won the Queensland Title by the barest margin (2 points). They defeated the top boys’ teams from across the State including a number of GPS schools. In doing so they have now earned the right to represent Queensland at the Australian Schools Team Championships in Melbourne in late August.

If they were to become Australian Champions, they would then be selected to represent Australia at the World Championships in Hungary next year. What an incentive for this fabulous team. Well done boys and Mr Ferris. Best wishes in your preparation for Melbourne.

The team was Lachlan Jones, Lachlan Sosinski, Jack Sosinski, Johann Zipf, Matt van der Vlugt and Max Garrett.

Congratulations also to the girl’s team who finished Runners-up at the same event. While just missing out on getting to the National Championships, it was still a great result. Well done Girls.

Runners were Gabby Dalton, Emily Casaclang, Jenna Breetzke, Grace Planting, Kiah Beal and Rachael Harcombe.

Who could have imagined a few short years ago that Emmanuel would be one of the premier Cross Country schools in Queensland. All credit to Mr Ferris who has done a sensational job with our students.

Also just prior to the holidays the Regional Cross Country Championships were held at Runaway Bay. We had over 30 students in the APS team at this event, which was a huge contingent and this was eventually reflected in the final selections, where 13 Emmanuel students were picked in the South Coast team and a further eleven had top 10 finishes. Selected students are now competing at their respective State carnivals. It was a great result by all students involved. A special congratulations to those runners who had podium finishes as well.
