Principal's Message

Some opportunities, like the Junior School FRIENDS program are woven into the curriculum whilst others like the Year 8 Compass, the Year 9 Response, the Year 10 Journey and the Year 11 Mentoring programs are voluntary. They are all, if I’m honest, quite remarkable. These programs are an integral part of the education on offer here, and I would encourage you to talk to your children about joining in.

Diverse range of sporting achievements during the holidays....

Swimming:  7 Emmanuel students named in the Qld School Teams!
In a fantastic outcome, 7 Emmanuel students have been selected in the Qld Schools Swimming Teams to contest the National Titles later in the year. This is just an outstanding result! Congratulations to Adele Phillips and Josh Booth in the Junior School and to Madisyn Armstrong, Olivia Skea, Jess Martland, Bailey Armstrong and Ben Vincent in the Senior School. Well done and best wishes for later in the year.

Swimming:  Emmanuel Swimmers compete in National Age championships
Also during the holidays, the Australian Age Championships were held in Sydney and our swimmers competed against 3700 swimmers from over 400 clubs!  Congratulations to the swimmers below on their outstanding results and in particular to Madisyn Armstrong who has won her first National Medal by claiming Silver in the 200m Fly.

Water Polo:  Caitlyn Zipf  
Caitlyn and her team competed in the Australian Women’s Country Water Polo Titles in Karratha. The Qld team suffered a heartbreaking and controversial loss 10-8 to WA in the grand final. Caitlin had a great experience playing against current and past Olympians… and the weather was glorious all week. She grew in confidence as the week went on - not an easy feat as she was the youngest player at the tournament!

Gymnastics: Liam Georgilopoulos
Liam competed in the Mens Artistic Gymnastics State Championships where he was selected into the Queensland Team to compete at Nationals in Melbourne in May.  

Basketball:  Matt Ashton (Yr 8)
Matt and his team mates represented the Gold Coast at the U16 State Basketball Championships (division 3) during the school holidays. He played 9 matches in 5 days and won the Grand Final by 22 points - to be the State Champions, winning the Gold Medal in his division.  They competed against teams from throughout Queensland.

Futsal: Georgie Rollino
Over the holidays, Georgie participated in the state Futsal comp, run by Football Queensland, in Brisbane where she played for the Sunshine Coast and they won the competition.  

Athletics: Jake Waugh
Jake has made the QLD team for Little Athletics. Flying to Perth this Thursday, competing in 1500 run and 1500walk, and is Captain of the 22 member team.

Athletics: Jordan Chalmers (Yr 5)
Jordan went to the Queensland Little Athletics Competition a couple of weeks ago and came 3rd in his 800m heat.  They called off the final race due to rain, but his time was 6th fastest in the State.

Golf:  Josh, Lisa and Brianna Edgar
All 3 played amongst the best in the Australian Championships held in cold and windy conditions in South Australia. The next biggest tournament is NSW Amateur in June holidays.
