ICT Students stand out in the Top 3

IPT_Award.JPG

Our Emmanuel College ICT Students in both Junior and Senior school have once again achieved top-three placings at the recently concluded ICT competition organised by SAP and the University of Queensland.

The Year 10 team of Jake and Cameron van den Brink and Campbell Reid (pictured here with Leeanne Enoch, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business) won third place in their age category against competition from 24 other schools with a Smoke and Gas Sensor that communicates a real-time SMS to the resident/business owner when a dangerous event is triggered, thereby reducing emergency response time.

Austin Gregory from Year 6, took out second place in his age category against 67 other teams with his Smart Bin device that sends an SMS to our groundsmen when rubbish bins are almost full and need to be cleared, thereby helping with their workload and health.

Credit must also be given to Joseph Brown, our year 12 IPT mentor, who was a notable coach in our pilot IT mentoring program.
