We are extremely proud of two of our Emmanuel Alumni, Gabrielle Quilliam and Rachel Clune (both class of ’91) who have been instrumental in setting up and gaining support for Queensland’s only children’s hospice, Hummingbird House.
There are only 2 other hospice facilities in Australia and approximately 3700 families are in need of this service in Queensland which is designed to support children and families affected by life limiting conditions, provide respite and end of life care.
This is a remarkable project which is now under construction in Chermside, Brisbane and the first family is due to move in at the end of this year. Prime Minister Tony Abbott turned the first sod for the building in March and has committed considerable National Funding to make this Hospice a reality.
In addition, they have managed to gain the support of Coles, who has jumped on board and is selling merchandise throughout September, to support this great cause. If you would like to support this campaign, you can purchase $2 tokens, pens, caps and merchandise from any Coles store in Queensland.
