Principal's Message

Some opportunities, like the Junior School FRIENDS program are woven into the curriculum whilst others like the Year 8 Compass, the Year 9 Response, the Year 10 Journey and the Year 11 Mentoring programs are voluntary. They are all, if I’m honest, quite remarkable. These programs are an integral part of the education on offer here, and I would encourage you to talk to your children about joining in.

Academics

Emmanuel College follows the Australian Curriculum for all subjects from Prep to Year 6. Our educational programs are constructed within the context of a Christian worldview; significantly informed by our Christian heritage and basis. Our aim is to engage students in thinking deeply about the world, and being prepared to ask radical questions and challenge existing constructs.

As a school which strives to achieve the very best for its students, we encourage every student not just to reach their potential, but to go beyond what might appear to be their limits.

We strongly encourage Conduct and Effort, not just raw academic success. We genuinely value the efforts of every student who strives to achieve their personal best.

Our Junior School literacy program has now been showcased at five Independent Schools Conferences in Queensland to over 200 different Independent School Principal’s and Curriculum Leaders. This program has been developed over the past five years and our teachers are continually aiming to make the curriculum a whole Junior School program where every student benefits and to ensure that the literacy teaching at Emmanuel is outstanding!  Click here to take a look at our showcase video.

Gifted and Talented

Students who excel in their academic subjects are catered for in extension classes for mathematics, writing, reading, philosophy and drama.

Students who are performing highly in certain subjects are invited to participate in University of NSW competitions, Griffith University Science Trivia Competitions and other opportunities which arise throughout the year.

All Gifted and Talent programs are co-ordinated by the Director of Learning and Teaching P-6 and Gifted & Talented Co-ordinator.

Learning Support

A good school will recognise the individual needs of all of its students and develop a school environment which promotes quality learning strategies to cater for all learners; inviting every student to achieve his or her personal best.
